Pirate Decoupage Paper            Pirate Treasure Chest

Every child loves to collect precious treasure from all of their travels. Beautiful seashells from the vacation at the beach to baseball tickets from a fun day at the stadium. What better place to stash all of their treasure than in a decoupage “Pirate Treasure Chest”. This project will take under an hour to complete.

Supplies:

-Wooden box

-Foam paint brush

-Paint: Brown, black, tan would be good paint colors.

-Paper Plate Palette

-Paper Towels

-Decoupage Paper

-White School Glue or decoupage Glue

1) Paint wooden box using a foam paint brush with paint. You can water paint down

1/3 water to 2/3 paint to make it easier to paint and it allows the wood gain to show through and creates a really pleasing look. First paint inside and allow clasp to keep

The lid separate from the bottom to keep the box from being sealed closed.

2) While the paint is drying cut out the pirate figures and designs from the decoupage paper.

3) When painted wooden box is dry brush glue on back of decoupage paper pieces and place on wooden box. Take your time and place glued pirate decoupage paper all over the wooden chest.

4) When all of the pirate decoupage paper pieces are all on your wooden box use the foam brush and brush white school glue completely over the whole Pirate Treasure Chest.

Make sure to let the clasp keep the lid of the chest separated from the bottom or your

Treasure chest will seal close. The white school glue will seal and protect he wooden treasure and give it a finished look.

Tips For Best Results:

When decoupaging for a children’s party-
*Cut out all of the decoupage pieces earlier. I cut out my decoupage

pieces when I watch TV during the commercial. It goes really fast.

*Let the children pick out 5 decoupage pieces while their chests are

   drying.
*If you are creating a girls decoupage chest add some glitter at the end.

Decoupage Glue Tips:

*When creating children’s projects use regular white school glue it works

  great.

*When working on an Heirloom or Special Keepsake use either

decoupage glue found at most crafts stores or use clear poly

acrylic. Brush on several coats and sand lightly between coats.
