Creating A Magical Kid’s Room Using Wall Stickers

Creating a fantastic wall mural for your child’s room has never been easier.

With the wide variety of wall stickers and decals on the market today there is enough

diversity to suit every child’s interest. With a little imagination and planning you can easily create a magical children’s mural at the fraction of the cost of a hand painted one.

Inspiration-The first and often the hardest part is choosing a theme. Wall stickers & decals come in every size, shape, color & theme imaginable everything from sports, cars, dinosaurs for boys & princess, dots and flowers for girls. Even beautiful designs for the nursery like moon & stars, nursery rhyme & barnyard animals. Create-A-Mural has a
line of

.

Choose A Theme-In choosing the theme take clues from your child. Does your toddler love sports and takes his little plastic bat and hit everything in site. Does your precious little princess love dress up make pretend. Design the mural around your child’s interests. If your little girl love animals and is constantly playing with her toy animals & watches very show on TV about animals then give them an animal mural not a princess mural, even if you would like a princess mural better.

Focal Wall-We are designing a Barnyard Whole Room Mural which would be wonderful for a nursery, toddler or elementary age child. After you have chosen a theme now chose the wall. If you are going to put the effort to create this wonderful mural you want it to be the focal point of the room. Choose the largest wall. You can place your child’s bed against the wall but if you do remember to start the mural a bit higher on the wall and make your child’s bed a part of the mural theme too.

Layout-After choosing your mural wall draw out the wall measurements on a piece of paper. It is much easier to play around with where you want your hills to be on the mural by first drawing them on a piece of paper then drawing and redrawing on the actual wall. Now draw the distance hills higher on the paper and the up close hill lower on the paper. Use your child’s crayons and color it into see if you like the layout.

How To-Transfer the pencil drawing to your child’s wall using a piece of chalk. Try and duplicate what you drew on your paper on the wall. Don’t worry about being a little off.

If you don’t like what you drew on the wall simply use a damp sponge to wipe off the chalk and redraw the rolling hills line. After you are happy with your rolling hills lines now it is time to paint.

Paint Background-Our “Barnyard Mural” is based outside so we will paint the top 2/3rds of the wall a sky blue. For a feeling of warmth we suggest you paint the ceiling the sky blue also. To create the feeling of depth to our mural we are painting the rolling hills at the top of the mural a light green which will make them look like they are far off in the distance. For the hills near the bottom of the mural we will paint a darker green which will make them appear as if the are closer to you.

After the paint has cured for a week now you start the fun part. You get to design the mural to best suit your child’s room. Have a design idea in mind and play! What is great about wall stickers is that most of them are repositionable. You can put up most of the wall stickers your self and then leave a few for your child to apply to involve them in the process. After all it is their room. The feeling of instant gratification is wonderful. It will take you less than ½ hour to create a whole children’s mural!

***Very important-Allow the paint to cure for a week before placing the wall stickers to the wall to create the mural. Even though the paint feels dry to the touch moisture is still leaching out and evaporating. This interferes with the wall sticker’s adhesive and they will not adhere properly and might fall off. If this should happen do not worry. Just place the wall stickers back onto the backing it came on or onto a piece of wax paper and reapply in a week.
