Rooms

Designing a Nursery-It is easiest to start with a theme.Pick a focal piece. It could be a border or comforter or rug.Just pick something you really love.Choose two or three colors from your focal piece and add them to the walls and don't forget the ceiling.Painting the ceiling a soft color will make the room feel cozy. From your focal piece go shopping and antiquing looking for  those special things that will make the room unique.

For example if you chose a garden type comforter either paint the walls and the ceiling blue for the sky.Chose a green carpet resembling grass.Next you could paint paint or use our wallpaper fence.Place flowers over the fence to create  a garden feel in the room. For the changing table you can use a pie safe and velcro on a changing pad.Add some wicker furniture and you are on your way to a beautiful garden theme nursery.

Remember safety.Never leave your baby unattended on the changing table. The baby could chose that moment to learn how to roll over.As the baby begins to crawl ,crawl aroud the room with him at his level and look for hidden dangers. As the child begins to stand he will pull on furniture.Make sure that the dressers are surely attached to the walls with safety strapes available at all baby stores.Put covers on the outlets.

Childrens Rooms-It is important to create a special place for children to create and dream.I don't think it is a great idea to do a whole room in really bright colors unless that is what your child is naturally drawn to.Remember their room is also a place you want them to sleep. One way to design a childs room is in activity centers. In one corner have a creativity center with their crayons and markers and alot of paper.Have a reading center, which could simply consist of a large beanbag chair and a small book case. From there design other centers based on their interests. For example if your son loves matchbox cars Set up a small table with a road painted on it ,a garage (box) for his cars and a chair that he could comfortably play for hours. This table can also do double duty as the art table.

Make your childs room a place where they can go and daydream and imagine.
Make a storybook come alive on your childs walls with "Create-A-Mural".Our easy to use mural pieces make it a snap to create a woodland theme or a summery rose garden. As they lay in bed at night they will make up stories about all the animals and  the mischief they have caused. In the morning they will tell your of their latest adventures. When the children are older the memories of their rooms will still be with them, and they will tell their kids about the storybook room that gave them many days and nights of delight.

Designing Living Rooms-

Every room needs a focal point to create interest. It could  be a fire place, window seat ,painting.Something that when you either first walk into the room you see and enjoy, or when you are seated you enjoy looking at.If your room lacks any focal points look at "Window Views" this wallpaper window mural could do the trick. The "Wide Stone Window" would look beautiful over your couch. The variety of windows lends itself to any type of decor from the most recent trend of old world to victiorian.

Remember in decorating the easiest  and most affordable way to create interest in your room is always paint. When your walls are white your are always trying to get a cozy feeling so you have to add stuff (which you have to dust).Howerver there is a place for white especiallly a sea side theme.

Designing the room.Pick a paint color for the walls out of the fabric on your couches, rug ,painting or window mural.Paint your walls, and paint your ceiling the same color but a few shades lighter. You will be amazed at what a warm feeling this creates in your room.Put the focal piece back in the room.If your are redesigning a room it's best to take everything out when painting and then bring in the major pieces of furniture and move them around ,don't just place them back where they were before. For example if your couch was against the wall facing the window place it catty corner and place a small sofa table behind it with a plant sitting on some books.Don't bring anything back into the room you don't really love. Why dust something you don't love.I would rather wait and find that perfect thing at some garage sale or receive a great painting for my birthday.

It takes time to design a room. Most of us don't have all the stuff it takes to have the rooms of our dreams right away, but we collect pieces on our vacations.Or receive family heirlooms from our parents.

Quick tips-Quickest way to create a warm feeling in a room

1)Paint!!!

2)Add plants-a room will tend to look a little sterile without some living things in it.Plant also help the air quality. They are a natural air filtration system. However, there are some hard plants to keep alive. One is a palm  tree .I love them, especially in the corner .I usually use them as another layer and put a small screen or table in front, but since I have a hard time keeping these alive I've broken down and bought a good quality fake one and place other live plants on the table in front. Its also best to keep all the plants together for watering.

3)Candles-Light them,use them,even when your home alone.

4)Books-I love books, they add instant age and dignity to a room.Stack them and put a plant or candle on them.Get some book ends and place them on the shelf, but most of all read them. That is still the best way to use a book.
