We know it can be  a hard to make a decision and we want to help you choose a mural that is right for your room
with the minimum of stress and the maximum of design impact. We can show you how to make your room look like
a designer room with the hand painted look of a muralist but stay within your budget. So how do you?

  • Choose just the right mural theme?
  • What size mural will I need?
  • What supplies do I need?
  • Will the mural fit in my budget.
  • Where do I start to hang the mural?

Choosing the Right Mural Theme:
-How old is my child?
Your child's age greatly affects how you design your child's room. Their age dictates their furniture needs and use
of the room. If your child is an infant then they will need a crib, changing table, rocking chair. The room decor is
mainly  for you :-) . We chose what we want. We usually chose a theme based on the crib bedding. When our
babies grow into toddler they need play space, tables for their toys, shelving for their budding collection of books.
Their youthful exuberance usually calls out a more dramatic and colorful environment. As they enter their elemen-
tary school aged years they start  collecting everything in site. They want to display all of their special finds from
the day at the beach or the trophy they received from soccer. One day they love something the next day it's out!
I am not even sure I want to talk about the teen years while I am still in the middle of experiencing them. Different
ages have different needs.

***Always do furniture placement first! Then decorate. You will easily find the wall that needs attention or figure out
that you want to make the bed the focal point of he room.

***When decoration a younger child's room place the murals and wall stickers lower on the wall so they can see it.
Do not place the mural at your eye level but your child's eye level.

-Will they play or just sleep in their room?
This might not seem like a very important question at first but this will help you determine the color scheme. If
your child will mainly be sleeping in their room choose a soft and restful color, and a pleasant and dreamy
mural design. Place the focal point of the room where your child can view it from their bed. However, if your
child will be playing in their room a lot you can choose a brighter color and an imaginative mural design. You
can make the focal point their play area.

-What does my child like to play with?
I made a mistake when I first decorated my 2 youngest daughters room by decorating their room in the kind of clothes they like to wear. They loved to dress in princess type of clothing when they were younger. So I mistakenly thought  "Oh, they would love to play in a princess room. So I went and decorated their room in a princess theme. I hung a mural over their bed, decoupaged their dresser and night tables using princess decoupage paper and even decorated their sheets using princess iron-ons. Only they didn't play in their room ;-(. After all my hard work and after spending hours of plotting and planning I realized my mistake! They love dressing like princesses but they loved playing with animals! Lots of animals....They had their zoo animals, their sea animals and of-course their puppy collection of dogs in every shape and form; (They desperately wanted another dog, but having 5 children and 1 Yorkie was more than enough, so they fulfill their desire for another dog through their massive collection of puppies .)
Wanting them to actually play in their room so the rest of the house would not get as messy I went ahead and redecorated their room.

-How long will they be in that room?
Having five children we move our kids around a lot depending on their age and sex. A baby girl is fine in a room with a toddler boy, but for how long? Figure out how much time and money you want to spend in conjunction with th approximate length of time your
child (children) Will be in that room. For everyone this answer is different and there are so many pieces  that are a part of this equation.

-How often do I plan to redecorate my child's room?
I redecorate my children's room every few years. I do it inexpensively and we make a family project out of it so it is so much fun! However, if you only want to decorate/redecorate very age transition Baby to toddler, toddler to elementary, elementary to pre teen,
and preteen to teen. Focus on keeping the wall colors neutral and use removable wall decoration. Put the decorating punch in small furniture pieces that are easily replaced. Like toy chests, night tables, rocking chairs. Not the major furniture pieces such as  dressers and wardrobes. You can also add some strong design accents through pillows, lamps and fun accessories.

What Size Mural Do You Need:
-What size wall or walls do I want to cover?
Do you want one dramatic focal wall? Or would you rather create a complete themed room? You can also design a room that is comfortable with understated appeal. For an extreme themed room, which simply means you want to decorate every square inch
of your child's room. Measure each wall length and height. It is best to draw a rough design layout on paper to help you plan out
design details.

-Do I want to design a focal point on one wall or do I want the design to cover all the walls?
-If you choose to use one focal wall make sure that most of the wall can be viewed easily and that there is not much furniture
on that wall. If you must put funriture on that wall keep it low like a dresser or table and chairs and focas your attention on
using the upper part of the wall. Also paint the remaining walls a complimentary color, not just white! You can use a bolder
color on the remaining walls because it will balance out the themed mural design on the focal wall.
-If you chose to place the mural design on all the walls you can chose a more subtle color for the walls and this will create a
comfortable feeling and a conhesive look to your childs room.

                                                            Murals
From the beginning of time people have painted their walls using whatever they could find. Berry juice and a type
of paint they made from leaves. Even children from a very young age love to draw on the walls. I remember getting
into a heap of trouble for drawing a window on my bedroom wall. It is also one of the easiest and most affordable
way to design a kids room with the most impact. There are so many ways of using murals. They come in many
different forms, wallpaper murals, peel & stick murals, paint by number murals and even mural pieces in which you
can create you own mural.
